Swedish Traditions.

Traditionally Sweden is probably best known for its meatballs as its everyday dish. Meatballs are still enjoyed in Sweden today by both children and grown-ups.

The Swedes enjoy cooked and peeled prawns. The prawns are often on open sandwiches, in salads or cocktails. Prawns have always been very popular in Sweden and are still popular as a delicious and convenient dish. The prawns are caught in crystal clear, ice-cold depths of the waters around Greenland. Thanks to the slow growth rate in these unique living conditions the prawns have a very delicate taste and a firm texture.

Modern Swedish cuisine is steeped from very old traditions. Short summers and long winters made food preserving techniques important. Gravlax (Marinated salmon) originally formed its name from being wrapped in the bark of the birch tree then dug into the earth. ("grava=dig) Much later when sugar was available more sophisticated methods was available.
